MOSQUITOES: Molecular Approaches

چکیده
■ Abstract The genetic background of individual mosquito species and populations within those species influences the transmission of mosquito-borne pathogens to humans. Technical advances in contemporary genomics are contributing significantly to the detailed genetic analysis of this mosquito-pathogen interaction as well as all other aspects of mosquito biology, ecology, and evolution. A variety of DNA-based marker types are being used to develop genetic maps for a number of mosquito species. Complex phenotypic traits such as vector competence are being dissected into their discrete genetic components, with the intention of eventually using this information to develop new methods to prevent disease transmission. Both geneticand physicalmapping techniques are being used to define and compare genome architecture among and within mosquito species. The integration of geneticand physical-map information is providing a sound framework for map-based positional cloning of target genes of interest. This review focuses on advances in genome-based analysis and their specific applications to mosquitoes.

Characterization of dengue virus in Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus spp. of mosquitoes: A study in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan
Dengue is a vector-borne disease caused by dengue virus. According to the recent report of CDC that one-third population of the world are at high risk with Dengue fever. The prevalence of the dengue hemorrhagic fever was found more in tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world. Aedes mosquitoes was reported as the main cause of transmission of dengue virus. So the current study was planned ...
متن کاملLow- and High-Tech Approaches to Control Plasmodium Parasite Transmission by Anopheles Mosquitoes
Current efforts have proven inadequate to stop the transmission of Plasmodium parasites, and hence the spread of malaria, by Anopheles mosquitoes. Therefore, a novel arsenal of strategies for inhibiting Plasmodium infection of mosquitoes is urgently needed. In this paper, we summarize research on two approaches to malaria control, a low-tech strategy based on parasite inhibition by the mosquito...
متن کاملBacterial Diversity Associated with Wild Caught Anopheles Mosquitoes from Dak Nong Province, Vietnam Using Culture and DNA Fingerprint
BACKGROUND Microbiota of Anopheles midgut can modulate vector immunity and block Plasmodium development. Investigation on the bacterial biodiversity in Anopheles, and specifically on the identification of bacteria that might be used in malaria transmission blocking approaches, has been mainly conducted on malaria vectors of Africa. Vietnam is an endemic country for both malaria and Bancroftian ...

Background: Mosquitoes are the most important blood feeding insects that can transmit serious diseases such as malaria and arboviruses. Each species of mosquitoes selects a specific host according to biological conditions of the region and genetic characteristics. Anopheles maculipennis complex and Culex theileri are dominant mosquito species in Zanjan. This study was carried out in order to de...
متن کاملMolecular Epidemiology of Japanese Encephalitis Virus in Mosquitoes during an Outbreak in China, 2013
Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) can cause serious encephalitis and Culex mosquitoes are the primary vector. In 2013, a JE outbreak occurred in Shandong Province, China with 407 confirmed cases, including 11 deaths. An investigation on JEV in mosquitoes during the outbreak was conducted. A total of 14,719 mosquitoes were collected at 3 sites. For the 12,695 Culex tritaeniorhynchus mosquitoes, ...
